HyperCast: A Protocol for Maintaining Multicast Group Members in a Logical Hypercube Topology
نویسندگان
چکیده
To efficiently support large-scale multicast applications with many thousand simultaneous members, it is essential that protocol mechanisms be available which support efficient exchange of control information between the members of a multicast group. Recently, we proposed the use of a control topology, which organizes multicast group members in a logical n-dimensional hypercube, and transmits all control information along the edges of the hypercube. In this paper, we present the design, verification, and implementation of a protocol, called HyperCast, which maintains members of a large multicast group in a logical hypercube. We use measurement experiments of an implementation of the protocol on a networked computer cluster to quantitatively assess the performance of the protocol for multicast group sizes up to 1024 members. * This work is supported in part by the National Science Foundation under grants ANI-9870336 and NCR9624106 (CAREER). # Corresponding Author: J. Towards Super-scalable Multicast
Large-Scale multicast applications for the Internet require the availability of multicast protocols that can support multicast groups with many thousand simultaneous members. For this it is crucial that there exist mechanisms to e ciently exchange control information between the members of a group. In this paper, we present a new approach for distributing control information within a multicast ...
متن کاملA Scalable Control Topology for Multicast Communications
Large-Scale multicast applications for the Internet require the availability of multicast protocols that enhance the basic connectionless IP Multicast service. A critical requirement of such protocols is their ability to support a large group of simultaneous users. In this paper, we present a new approach for distributing control information within a multicast group. The goal of our approach is...
متن کاملAMRoute: Ad Hoc Multicast Routing Protocol
The Ad hoc Multicast Routing protocol (AMRoute) presents a novel approach for robust IP Multicast in mobile ad hoc networks by exploiting user-multicast trees and dynamic logical cores. It creates a bidirectional, shared tree for data distribution using only group senders and receivers as tree nodes. Unicast tunnels are used as tree links to connect neighbors on the user-multicast tree. Thus, A...
متن کاملA Lookup Service for Delaunay Triangulation Overlays: The DeTella Application
In this paper we describe the DeTella distributed overlay directory service. DeTella is composed of network nodes that reside in a logical address space. Data that is inserted into the network is "owned" by a single node and replicated by "neighboring" nodes. Each data item has a logical address that is used to determine which DeTella node owns it. The logical address space that DeTella uses is...
متن کاملA Combined Group/Tree Approach for Many-to-Many Reliable Multicast
In this paper we present the design, implementation, and performance analysis of Group-Aided Multicast (GAM), a scalable many-tomany reliable multicast transport protocol. GAM achieves high quality ACK trees while keeping the tree maintenance overhead reasonably low in the presence of dynamic group membership and route changes. It is supported by a group configuration mechanism organizing the m...
